This book’s design represents a balance between the ideas of both the artist and the publisher. The cover type was custom made to evoke the abstractions in Dana Schutz’s paintings while also providing a trade-friendly cover for the publisher. The interior plates section has a loosely gridded image placement that evokes the playfulness of Dana’s paintings. We were honored to design the first major monograph for this young artist, and we were able to work closely with her on the pacing and sequencing of her works.
